ICMR

To meet the potential funding needs of MDCRC there came forward few magnanimous organizations and funding agencies who made a world of difference to us. This was both at national and international levels. Our national funding was from central and state government agencies, and also from individuals. We extend our heartfelt words of gratitude to each of them from the MDCRC team. We are proud to have each of them associated with us as partners.
The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) is the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, which is also one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world. ICMR is in close association with MDCRC since 2010 when Dr. V.M.Katoch, Director General, ICMR, inaugurated MDCRC at Coimbatore with lots of hope for it to spread its wings to expand. And yes we did it quite soon. Recently in 2014, the ICMR expert panel had visited the centre after reviewing the different proposals from MDCRC and recognized our centre as Centre for Advanced Research (CAR). Under CAR, they had approved 2 projects namely, genotype-phenotype correlation of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and multidisciplinary care for DMD. They have also extended their support towards establishment of Neuro-Muscular Disorders Registry with focus on Duchenne, which is under progress for approval. Awaiting for certain review suggestions to be implemented and soon MDCRC shall work in accordance with ICMR funding towards research and care of the children suffering from this devastating and lethal genetic disorder, namely Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
